ข้อความ : Management of Diabetes with Diet & Lifestyle Changes
Hi,
I am Tara, which also means star!! I would like to share my mother’s experience of diabetes management. We are a crazy Indian family living in the States and still are deeply rooted in our culture and cuisine. Well, I consider myself an American coz I’ve been living here since my childhood. My parents moved to the US around 1997, and ever since, we lived here. My father is a techy, my mum is a lecturer, and I am still looking for direction. I considered myself a poor-pampered child who was totally dependent on her folks for anything and everything.
My mum does my laundry, cooks food for me, does household cleaning and what not. I just lie down on the sofa and ‘Netflix and chill’. That’s the max I’m doing after school. One day, while I was following my busy schedule, I saw my mum feeling powerless while cooking food. I asked if she was okay, and she mentioned that she was very tired. She seemed powerless and low to me, and within about 5 mins I heard a banging sound. I went to the kitchen and saw my mother lying on the floor. I called 911 and rushed her to the hospital. She was unconscious for 2 hours and after conducting some tests, the Dr confirmed that she had type 2 diabetes. She kept complaining about her frequent urination issues but never consulted a doctor. Yk how moms are - a superwoman and caretaker who is least concerned about her health.
The doctor prescribed her Gemer DS 4 tablets. He told us that it would help control blood sugar levels. He also told my mother to take utmost care of her diet, incorporate non-starchy food, and work out regularly. But Indian parents can’t live without India bead or roti. I used to have a number of discussions and arguments with my mother about fixing her eating habits and doing some weight management – no wonder that lady never heard me out!
One fine day, I sat with her and educated her about this deadly medical condition. I told her the importance of consuming glimepiride 4 mg and metformin 1000 mg tablets prescribed by the doctor and cutting down sugar and carb intake. With a good diet plan and taking medicines on time, my mother was able to manage her diabetes effectively.
I narrated the whole story to the fellas out here to make them understand the importance of hearing your doctor and managing diabetes effectively with diet and lifestyle changes.
I hope it helps and I encourage you to speak your story as well 🙂
Xoxo
